Fabulous Flordia Trip to Maranatha Village Sebring, Florida

This was our first glimpse of Florida palm trees from the  airplane.

Since we arrived on Valentine's Day, Gerry and Connie took us to Outback for a "sweetheart's dinner."
Because we landed in Orlando we were able to enjoy the Disney World fireworks on the drive to Sebring.

We stayed in a  lovely duplex that they call a"Villa." It was right across the   street from Maranatha Baptist Church.We had the use of our own golf cart, although we did not play golf.  It was handy for getting to the swimming pool and Gerry and Connie's house.

There were some unique
 plants by the screened in porch.  It was relaxing to sit out there with my Tim Hortons coffee and enjoy the orange tree and lime tree in the backyard.

I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of palm trees.  However, I did not see any coconuts on the palm trees where we were.

Rides on the golf cart took us down the "Avenue of the Palms."  That is my name for Maranatha Avenue.  The other fascinating trees were the "live oaks" with the hanging moss. 

 

                                                                        

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2016

It has been over a year since I last blogged.  My how time flies!!  We had our Church Christmas Program last Sunday, December 18, 2016. The theme was "I BELIEVE". 

 The theme song was "I Believe the Bible".  Grandpa and Grandma are telling their grandchildren what they believe and why they believe it.  The prophet Isaiah told of his prophecy as well as the prophet Micah.  The 4th -6th graders played the bells as well as sang with the
whole group.  

                                           They all listened to Grandpa Bob.

This little guy had enough of sitting up.  Might as well be comfortable.

The teen and college girls sang "Gentle Mary".  It was very pretty.

All the kids and the teens sang "Sing Noel".  It was so  great to hear them altogether.

  The young man in the hat is Caleb.  He has been fighting cancer since April.  It was such a blessing to me that he wanted to sing with the group.  God has been so good to him and his family.  He just turned 18 and finished his last round of chemo.

 We ended the program with the kids singing "Jesus Christ is coming in the clouds for me."

Superior Shores Vacation 2015

The trees were pretty this year.  We stopped at one of the church families' farm and caught some of the color.

The road on the way up north was pretty but a little past the peak.

This is on the lobby floor as you walk in the door.

We had a ground floor suite with livingroom ,

bedroom with a king bed,

full kitchen PLUS a dishwasher.  We took food with us.

We could walk out our patio door and go right down to the shore of Lake Superior.

The fireplace  was in the bedroom, too.  It was SO COZY.

This path led from our room down to the lake.

One day of calm lake and the next came the wind and waves.  This is what we wanted to see.

Although most of the leaves were down (except for the oaks) farther north, we found these trees in Duluth.  We totally enjoyed our time away.  No gift shop crusin' this year.  Only a trip to Betty's Pies and out to eat a coulple of times.  We soaked in our Great God's awesome creation.

Outside Project DONE!!!

It has cleaned up the building so much.  I say a LOUD AMEN!! The pots of beautiful petunias have given way to mums and pumpkins.  We had our first snow, so the flowers will soon be gone.

Praise the Lord the work was completed Saturday morning before the rain came later in the day.

Praise the Lord, it is ALMOST done!

After waiting   all summer for the brick work to be done on the church building, the work began the first week of August.

The work was completed in just a few days.

We had good weather while the men worked. 

Life's Lessons

As I returned from exercise class last week, I found Dwight standing in the middle of the kitchen with a pile of broken dishes at his feet. I didn't break out in uncontrolable tears.   My first thought was, "There has to be a life lesson here."  I soon found out that a small plastic peg that held up the shelf had given way and the crash came.  I looked at the broken pieces of my Nortake china,, and I  thanked the Lord for the many times I was able to feed my family and guests from these beautiful dishes. They were all wedding and shower gifts.  I wonder how many times they were washed and dried in 47 years.  

There are a few pieces left plus the dinner plates that were on the bottom shelf.  When considering "down sizing", I guess this circumstance helps that outcome.

This life lesson brings to mind the fact that our most valuable possession is our soul.  I am thankful for the hope of eternal life.  So today as we sang in church , " then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee,  How Great THOU Art" this life lesson is a blessing.
