Superior Shores Vacation 2015

The trees were pretty this year. We stopped at one of the church families' farm and caught some of the color.

The road on the way up north was pretty but a little past the peak.

This is on the lobby floor as you walk in the door.

We had a ground floor suite with livingroom ,

bedroom with a king bed,

full kitchen PLUS a dishwasher. We took food with us.

We could walk out our patio door and go right down to the shore of Lake Superior.

The fireplace was in the bedroom, too. It was SO COZY.

This path led from our room down to the lake.

One day of calm lake and the next came the wind and waves. This is what we wanted to see.

Although most of the leaves were down (except for the oaks) farther north, we found these trees in Duluth. We totally enjoyed our time away. No gift shop crusin' this year. Only a trip to Betty's Pies and out to eat a coulple of times. We soaked in our Great God's awesome creation.

Outside Project DONE!!!

It has cleaned up the building so much. I say a LOUD AMEN!! The pots of beautiful petunias have given way to mums and pumpkins. We had our first snow, so the flowers will soon be gone.

Roof Completed ! Waiting for the new Door! PTL

Praise the Lord the work was completed Saturday morning before the rain came later in the day.

Praise the Lord, it is ALMOST done!

After waiting all summer for the brick work to be done on the church building, the work began the first week of August.

The work was completed in just a few days.

We had good weather while the men worked.

Life's Lessons

As I returned from exercise class last week, I found Dwight standing in the middle of the kitchen with a pile of broken dishes at his feet. I didn't break out in uncontrolable tears. My first thought was, "There has to be a life lesson here." I soon found out that a small plastic peg that held up the shelf had given way and the crash came. I looked at the broken pieces of my Nortake china,, and I thanked the Lord for the many times I was able to feed my family and guests from these beautiful dishes. They were all wedding and shower gifts. I wonder how many times they were washed and dried in 47 years.

There are a few pieces left plus the dinner plates that were on the bottom shelf. When considering "down sizing", I guess this circumstance helps that outcome.

This life lesson brings to mind the fact that our most valuable possession is our soul. I am thankful for the hope of eternal life. So today as we sang in church , " then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee, How Great THOU Art" this life lesson is a blessing.

Down Memory Lane with my Sister

My sister Priscilla from Meridian, Idaho was able to come out for a visit August 4-11. She visited our cousin Marilyn and her friend, Jenny in the Twin Cities and then spent about five days with us in Hillsdale.

The long awaited visit from Priscilla took us to our very favorite place, Lake Nebagamon. As we were driving down the hill to the cabin, Cilla stopped talking and, I said, "Are you crying?" the answer was "YES!"

Cilla's Best Friend growing up at the cabin in the summer was Becky Seidler. It has been decades since they saw each other. The fellowship was short but sweet. The childhood memories came pouring out as they laughed and reminisced

The cabin has been upgraded and improved, but they kept the unique charm from the Carlson era.

They still had a chair and the pad with little red horses on it our Mother made for it years ago. Remember that, Gail?

This is the addition to the back - another bedroom. The beautiful quilt on the bed was made by Merrilee.

I have to say that our trip to the Lake and then up to Duluth was very draining emotionally. We spent so much of our growing up years in the summers "up north", and the memories are so precious.

Cilla had hoped to see the diamonds sparkling on the Lake. It was a misty cloudy day and very foggy in Duluth. You can't see the lighthouse from where Cilla was standing. We didn't mind the fog because that was a big part of our "Up North" memories.

Summer 2015

The weather has been great for the flowers. We water everyday and feed every week.

We really enjoy the beauty of our Great Creator God.

Home again, home again jiggety jigg.

Thank you, Kari dear, for posting the pictures of my fabulous trip to Michigan. I did make it home but did a lot of sleeping on the way back. In fact the friends I rode with called to check on me this morning. I guess I didn't talk alot and they thought maybe I was sick. I enjoyed the quiet! Not that I did not enjoy all the "Ya Ya" and activity. I guess I am showing my age. Sigh! The next time I go to Michigan my sweetheart goes with me.

Trip to Michigan to see the kids 2015

A 14 hour trip over the UP to Lower Michigan to see the children and grand-children. The girls picked me up and we stopped at Tim Horton's for a coffee!
