The Story Continues: Anniversary Day

The entrance to the new church will include a new sign.  The 50th anniversary project is for the new sign.  Most of the money has been given already.
Two former pastors of Fundamental Baptist Church, Dwight  Turbett and Paul Fosmark and Gail.

Since "the SUITCASE" didn't come yet, Gail helped me pick out my outfit for Saturday.  It turned out very well.  (At least I didn't have to wear my casual clothes).

FBC Tour

Auditorium and a new Yamaha piano

The fellowship hall is huge.  Everyone can fit into one room instead of all the little classrooms.

The kitchen was a dream.  It would be fun to cook there anytime.

We spent Friday at the farm with Gail and Paul and Evangelist Gary and Elaine Gilmore who were starting meetings in Moncton on Sunday.  After a delicious meal of salmon steaks on the grill, we decided that a shopping trip into Saint John was in order since the SUITCASE was still missing.  That is we realized at 7pm we better hurry.  Gail helped me shop and I got a new outfit in record time, since the stores were closing shortly.  Then I remembered that I didn't have shoes to wear with my new outfit.  Thank goodness Wal Mart is open late.  Phew!  I made it!   The fellas went to a camera shop and had my camera recharged so I could take pictures of the Anniversary celebration on Saturday.

Fundamental Baptist Church

Our next stop was the new church building on Sand Cove Road, just down the street from our old home in SJ.

The foyer is beautiful and HUGE. Everryone commented on the size of the foyer.

This big sign  welcomes everyone who walks into the church.  The two guys on the bottom are NOT part of the sign.  Our next stop was to pick up the car they gave us to use.  Then on to Hatfield Point and Gail and Paul's farm.  By this time my camera said the battery was exhausted.  Guess What?  I couldn't recharge it because my charger was in my SUITCASE.  It was Friday and I still didn't have my suitcase.  Consequently, I don't have pictures of the Fosmarks new house aand proof that we were at the farm.  Sigh!!!

"THE SUITCASE" Story Continues

Pastor Herb and Janet picked us up in Bangor.  When we found out my (Cheryl) suitcase was the one that went West, the first stop was Wal Mart for some "essentials".  I was sure my suitcase would appear the next day.

The next day we toured the old church building in Saint John.  It is now a law office.

The remodeling of the building was amazing.  They wanted to spotlight the beautiful wood ceiling.  That seems to add to the charm of the building.

Anniversary Trip To Canada

We were asked to come to Fundamental Baptist Church in Saint John,  New Brunswick to help celebrate the church's Fiftieth Anniversary.

We flew out of Minneapolis for Detroit on Thursday, Oct. 25.  I was wondering as we flew over Lake Michigan if that shoreline was Grand Haven or Muskegon.
The walkway between gates in Detroit was quite interesting with the music and flashing lights.
We were a little starry-eyed since we had been up since 3 am by this time.

The Tram looked like an interesting ride but by this time we were wondering whose suitcase was going to San Fransisco - Dwight's or Cheryl's.  We had a two hour layover and then on to Bangor Maine.  We were to land at 4:30 but it was more like 5:30.  When we went to the baggage claim ,we were to find out that Cheryl's suitcase was visiting sunny California.  Thus began an adventure that has been named "THE CASE OF THE MISSING SUITCASE."

Fall in the Northwoods

This year we decided to go up to the cable cars at Lutsen.  You take the cable car to the top of Sawtooth Mountain and can enjoy the view from the lodge at the top.  It was breathtaking!  We decided that we would like to take friends and relatives up there sometime.  It was well worth the $.  It is nice being a SENIOR at times like this.
The sunrise over Lake Superior each morning was spectacular!  The Lake was as smooth as glass each morning.  What a wonderful reminder of our Great Creator God!
We took our annual fall trip up to Duluth during the peak colors.  The roads going to the cabin at Lake Nebagamon were blazing with color.  We remember a year back in the 70's when we took our vacation in September.  Kari was in kindergarten and Mari wasn't in school yet.  The colors were just as beautiful.  We captured those shots on slides.  Ah, the wonders of technology!

Counting My Blessings

It has been a long time since I blogged and alot has happened in the Turbett family.   Now the hills of northern Wisconsin are beginning to change color and it reminds me of our Great God and His Great love for each of us.  We made a trip to Michigan via Rockford, Il.  During our vacation we were able to see our new grandbaby, Isaac Sean, and all the rest of the grandkids and their parents.  We had a grand time with all of them.  I'm so glad the grandkids (even though they are getting bigger) let their Grammy hug and kiss them lots.  Even the boys don't mind it (I hope).  What a blessing our family is to us!!
The  three and a half days in Spring Lake with Sean and his family went fast.  It rained most of the time we were there but no one was complaining because they needed the rain so much.  We were able to spend Sunday with Brad and Mari and had the priviledge of hearing Brad preach.  We  learned a new song and sang with Brad and Mari in the morning service.  I also got to play the piano for the services because their regular pianist was gone for the summer.  That was a blessing, too!
We stayed a night in Mackinaw City and toured the Island.  It was fun going there with Brad and Mari and their kids.  Brad and Mari went to the Island on their honeymoon 18 years ago.  Wow!
Our next destination was Pictured Rocks on the shores of Lake Superior in the UP.  It was awesome.  We left Brad and Mari and the kids at their campground and headed back home to Hillsdale.
Once we got home we were busy with the abundant blessing of our garden.  The canners came out and the freezer started filling up with raspberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, onions, and beans.
The call came from Kari and Ted telling us that the job Ted had applied for in Michigan  was for sure.  We had been praying long and hard for the Lord's leading in their lives and the answer came.  That was a HUGE blessing!  The canner was set aside for a while and we drove down to Rockford to try and help with the packing that needed to be done in two weeks time.  Praise the Lord it all was done with the help of family and friends.
Now all of our children and grandchildren live in Michigan.  The girls live close to each other and their brother lives about 2 1/2 hours away.  God is so good!  What a blessing!
" As for God His way is Perfect.: the word of the Lord is tried:  he is a buckler to all those that  trust in Him." " Psalm 18:30

Tuesday's Blessing

We have  new grandbaby!!  Isaac Sean was born at 10:45 am on July 31, 2012.  He weighed in at 6 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long.  He looks like his sisters and brother (also his daddy).  We are planning a trip to see him and the rest of the family in the next week.  Thank you, Kari, for putting the picture on my blog.

Monday's Respite

It was a day off after  a busy weekend.  We decided to go for a drive.  The car knew where to go - up North.  It was a beautiful day to enjoy God's handiwork in the north country.  Lake Superior was a calm blue instead of the cloudy brown that is was the last time we were there. The shoreline was filled with uprooted trees from the June "storm of the century.  We found a nice lakeside park, sat on a bench and watched the lake and people.  It was a hot day and people were swimming in Lake Superior.  You don't see that too very often.

HOPE: the reflection of existent reality

Just as this sunrise over Lake Superior gives hope (anticipation, expectation,) for a new day, God's Word gives us hope ( anticipation, expectation, trust) for our eternal future.  Our pastor (my beloved) gave a wonderful message last Sunday night on "Hope" from I Corinthians 13:12.
I.  Hope recognizes the present limit of knowledge.
II.  Hope recognizes the anticipation of the reality of the promise fulfilled.
III.  Hope energizes the present life of the believer
- this hope purifies us  I John 3:2-3
-this hope clarifies our reason  I Peter 3:15
-this hope assures us of life eternal  Titus 2:13

In the light of this HOPE, the trials and difficulties of this life seem a little dimmer and the FUTURE a lot brighter.

New Friends, Old Friends

We were privileged to have Orris Refsel and his wife Fran visit us on a Wednesday night.  We enjoyed their fellowship after church.  Of course, Orris was a "kid magnet" at church with his pocket full of tricks.  Actually, Dwight got a few of his tricks.  We'll see if he can pull them off on the grandkids. Hee, hee!!

We were able to take Dennis and Debbie out for supper the day before Debbie was released from the hospital in Eau Claire.  What an answer to prayer!  Debbie had intense physical therapy after her bicycle accident.  She is home now and doing well.

Bus Zone - VBS 2012

We had a GREAT week of VBS, despite the fact that we had no power on Thursday due to an early morning storm.  Our high attendance was 74 with 20+ teachers and helpers.  The final total for our missionary offering was over $1,000 after the Friday night program.  Praise the Lord!!

The stage was equipped with a giant ant hill, a cave with a giant spider web over the opening and real trees.

In my 1st -3rd Grade class, we grew our own insects in the "pond."  They grew to 500% of the original size.

Eduardo, the Exterminator Extraordinaire', was able to eradicate a giant beetle from the premises.  He cautiously approached several huge insect eggs.  The kids loved it when he smashed the eggs and green stuff came flying out. (pistachio pudding).
The most exciting thing for me was the little boy who was willing to give up his playtime the first day and accepted Christ as his Savior.  That's what it is all about.  I remember well the many verses I memorized as a child at VBS.  They have helped me and comforted me many times during the years.  The hard work is well worth it.

Fantastic Flowers

These pictures are for my sister.  The clematis bloomed after you were here.  It has gotten so big and heavy that every time the wind blows hard or it rains hard, the whole thing falls over.  Next year we will have sturdier support.

A storm comes across the hills!

The storm did not produce much rain.  It was just enough to make the flowers happy, but not much to help the garden and the farmers.

Mother Would Be Happy

The picture proves it - the sisters have white hair, not BLUE!!  We don't need the color job.

We took everyone to the "Norske Nook."  There is the Norwegian flag to prove it. I'm pretty sure Mother stopped at the Norske Nook on her drive to the cabin from St Paul.

We got to celebrate Teddy's birthday, again.  The lefse wraps were outstanding.  I think we can get them all to visit again if we go to Norske Nook for lunch (Paul says not for breakfast).

What Did We Do????

We were invited to the "Last Chance Farm" on Memorial Day.  Darlene enjoyed showing our grand kids the cows.  They asked some very good questions and got quite an education about raising and milkiing cows.

Ted (Mr. Mechanic) was interested in the farm equipment.

We enjoyed Wisconsin grown steaks on the grill.  The most amazing thing was that Bob, the farmer, was from out West and knew some of the same people that Paul knows and the churches where Paul's Dad pastored.  It is a small world.
We celebrated Teddy Wayne III's 9th Birthday.  His request was chocolate fudge brownie ice cream cake. YUM!!

We sat around the table and TALKED and listened.

Kari has a new craft - ruffley scarves.  She made one for her Mom and one for her Auntie.  It looked pretty cute on Uncle, too.
